9-16 Dec 2009: Adventures in Krabi, Thailand

Krabi’s limestone cliffs are heaven for rock-climbing enthusiasts, who come from all over the globe to take up the challenge of climbing them.

This trip was special for Alvin and Jin as they first climbed there 14 years ago during their 1st wedding anniversary. This time round, they have with them their little climbing angle - Robyn.

We flew Tiger Airways from Singapore to Krabi, and took a bus to Ao Nang, followed by chartering a long tail boat to Railay West, and finally a 10min walk through the Walking Street to Railay East. We checked in at the Anyavee Resort, which we pre-booked online.

The sunset scene at Ao Nang was beautiful.

Railay is a strategic place for the sun. Sunrise at Railay East is beautiful, while sunset at Railay West is breath-taking.

Today was a rock climbing day for us. We met Kung, Kai and Kee Seng at the airport, and we climbed with them at the Diamond Cave and 123 Wall. We also visited the Diamond Cave and enjoyed a nice sunset swim at the Phra Nang Bay.

For Alvin and Jin, it was so good to be back climbing at Phra Nang after first experiencing this limestone rock climbing haven 14 years ago.

Robyn enjoyed challenging the mighty limestone wall too.

Today, we decided to do some trekking up to the Viewpoint, above the 123 Wall. It was a nice rock scrambling and the view up at the Viewpoint was certainly worth the trek. We didn't get down to the Lagoon, however, due to a stretch of vertical descend.

This evening, we enjoyed one of the most delightful sunset scenes in all our travels at the Railay West beach.

Today, we explore the bay, caves and rock faces in kayak. We rented the kayak from Jack and Lena at Mambo Resort, Tongsai Bay. It was a relaxing day before we head to the rock again tomorrow.

Today, we go Sunset Snorkeling...!

It was Robyn's first snorkeling experience in open water and she loves every bit of it. We saw beautiful corals, lots of colorful fishes and we snorkeled into and through caves. At dusk, we enjoyed a gorgeous sunset view from Tub Island. After nightfall, we did a night swim and saw magical fluorescent plankton sparkling all around us under the water. It's been a great day!

Before setting out at 2pm, we spent the late morning watching some seriously strong climbers worked on seriously hard routes at the Tongsai Wall.
